A few months ago, some friends of mine asked me if I would be willing to take pictures of Mama giving birth to their next child.   I was thrilled and honored that they had thought of me and asked me.   I’ve done lots of baby photography, children’s photography, and family photography, but birth photography was a new one for me!  I quickly responded to the affirmative.  Who better to practice on than good friends??  ;-)

I drove up to Danville, Indiana from Nashville through rain, sleet, and snow (literally!!).  I arrived at 4:30 p.m. -just after Libby & Brian got to the hospital and were checked in.  I walked in the door, got a hug and a grin from Brian asking me if I was ready to pull an all-nighter with them.  ”Of course!” I said.  Little did we know…

Within an hour of my arrival, the nurses determined that something was not right with little Aiden Neal.  They called the doctor back to the hospital and at 5:45 she was telling Libby that an emergency C-Section was going to be the best thing for Aiden.  By 6:00 p.m. they were wheeling her out of the room and into the O.R. and at 6:22 p.m. Aiden Neal Simkins arrived in the world!!!

It was a whirlwind and not at all what we expected. I am so glad that I was there to capture this precious story.
